Don't you dare say that Adia Victoria makes Americana. She will correct you and say, "Adia Victoria does not sing Americana, Adia Victoria sings the blues." The American artist has been doing that for three albums now, after she decided to leave South Carolina and pursue her dreams elsewhere. First she tried ballet, then acting, then writing poetry. But it wasn't until Victoria picked up an acoustic guitar that she realised where her life was supposed to lead. Now, from Nashville, the singer-songwriter tells stories that challenge expectations about black women and further address social and psychological themes. 2021 saw the release of Adia Victoria's latest album, 'A Southern gothic', a "brave", "uncompromising" and "richly textured" work (according to Rolling Stone) on which she pays tribute to the US South.
