A sound for the future – It is exciting to witness how Belgian jazz continues to reinvent itself, with new talents consistently emerging to enrich its vibrant scene. One of the most promising newcomers is Bodem, the trio led by saxophonist Adia Vanheerentals, who was recently featured in Klara’s De Twintigers, a selection of young musicians to watch. With Bodem, Vanheerentals shines through her lyrical melodies and fresh, collective musical interaction.
To achieve this, she is joined by drummer Anke Verslype and guitarist Willem Malfliet. Verslype is making waves with her subtly powerful work in projects like aki (see: BRAND!), while Malfliet thrives in the space between pop and jazz, with acts such as Woolvs. Together, they form the perfect ensemble to bring the saxophonist’s short but imaginative compositions to life on stage.
Their debut album, "Kleine Mars", released under the up-and-coming label MOKUHI Sonorities by Nicolas Rombouts, immediately captivated audiences with its charming blend of intimacy and energy. Imagine not just cosy pubs, but also summery vibes and pink confectionery.
