chose is a queer artistic and musical project led by Nath Jonniaux. For Nath, chose is both a tool and a space for expression and exploration. In everyday life, Nath is a researcher, a father, and a step-parent to three children. The space to express or define oneself differently is limited. chose acts as a flamboyant breath of fresh air.
The project was born at the end of 2021, as a break from previous musical projects and a move toward new explorations of gender identity. From slam to rap, to lyrical songwriting, and now electro-pop, the only constant in Nath’s artistic journey is writing.
chose first emerged as a live performance, presented around ten times across Wallonia, Brussels, and Cadiz (Spain) during the 2022–2023 season. This performance allowed Nath to affirm their non-binary expression, leading up to a near point of no return in 2024: they are queer, they are masc, they are fem, and they have the right to explore and enjoy.
It was time to make a statement: their debut album habiter l’orage was released on April 19, 2024, and is now available on all streaming platforms as well as in physical format. The 14-track album features all the pieces previously performed live. It delivers a counterintuitive yet powerful message: our storm – the one we never fully leave behind, the one that makes us doubt, that weighs us down and holds us back – is sometimes also the force that pushes us forward, when we choose to live with it and harness its power.
