Gavin Friday is an artist who has never stood still. Born and raised in Dublin, he first made his mark as co-founder of the groundbreaking post-punk band Virgin Prunes, a group celebrated for tearing down conventions of music, gender, and performance. Since then, Friday has carved out a singular career as a singer, composer, and visual artist, collaborating widely across film, theatre, and contemporary music.
His latest album, Ecce Homo, is his first in 13 years and one of his most powerful works to date. Written with Soft Cell’s Dave Ball and finished in Dublin with longtime collaborators, the record fuses raw electronic energy with sweeping acoustic arrangements. It’s an unflinching response to personal loss and global upheaval, but also a celebration of love, resilience, and solidarity.
Throughout his career, Friday has embraced risk, reinvention, and honesty. With Ecce Homo, he reaffirms his place as one of Ireland’s most vital and uncompromising creative voices.
